Our Favorite Places to Eat & Drink
Coffee & Slow Mornings —
Broad Porch Coffee
Located in downtown Luray, Broad Porch is our go-to recommendation for coffee before a day of exploring Shenandoah National Park. They serve thoughtfully sourced coffee, breakfast items, and light fare in a cozy setting.
Why we love it: You'll actually find Broad Porch coffee stocked at Horizon Shenandoah, so if you enjoy it during your stay, be sure to stop by their café as well.
Breakfast & Brunch —
Gathering Grounds
A longtime local favorite, Gathering Grounds is a great spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch before heading out for the day.
Why we love it: It's one of those reliable places that both locals and visitors seem to enjoy.
Hawksbill Diner
A local favorite for classic diner breakfasts and comfort food.
Good to know: Cash only.
Why we love it: No frills, just a good breakfast before a day of exploring.
Casual Meals —
West Main Market
Part café, part market, and part gathering place, West Main Market is one of our favorite casual stops in town. In addition to sandwiches, salads, and local products, they also have a spacious outdoor beer garden that's a great place to relax after a day of exploring.
Depending on the season, you'll often find live music, local events, and a lively community atmosphere.
Why we love it: It's the kind of place where you can grab lunch, enjoy a local beer, listen to live music, and linger a little longer than planned.
Triple Crown BBQ
After a day hiking Shenandoah National Park, sometimes all you want is something hearty and satisfying.
Why we love it: The perfect post-hike meal.
Asian Station
Sometimes you're not looking for a special occasion dinner—you're just looking for a reliable, satisfying meal after a day of exploring.
Asian Station offers a variety of Asian-inspired dishes, including sushi, noodle dishes, stir-fries, and other favorites in a casual setting.
Why we love it: It's an easy, dependable option when you're craving something other than barbecue or traditional American fare.
Good to know: Great for takeout if you'd rather enjoy dinner back at the house while watching the sunset over the mountains.
Date Night in Luray —
Chop House Bistro
If you'd like a nicer dinner without venturing too far from town, Chop House Bistro is usually our recommendation.
The menu changes seasonally, the atmosphere feels elevated without being overly formal, and it's a great choice for a date night during your stay.
Why we love it: One of the best dining experiences you'll find right in Luray.
Worth the Drive —
The Inn at Little Washington & Patty O's
Located in the village of Washington, Virginia, these sister restaurants offer two very different—but equally memorable—experiences.
The Inn at Little Washington is one of the most celebrated restaurants in the country and a true destination for special occasions. If you're celebrating an anniversary, milestone birthday, or simply love exceptional food, it's well worth the drive.
For something more casual, Patty O's offers many of the same hallmarks of hospitality and culinary excellence in a more relaxed setting. Whether you're stopping in for lunch, pastries, cocktails, or dinner, it's an easy way to experience one of Virginia's most iconic culinary destinations.
Why we love it: The drive through the Virginia countryside is beautiful, the town itself is charming, and both restaurants make for a memorable afternoon or evening away from Luray.
Good to know: The Inn at Little Washington often requires reservations well in advance, while Patty O's is typically easier to visit on shorter notice.
Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen
One of our favorite casual meals outside of Luray. The wood-fired pizzas are excellent, and Sperryville makes for a fun afternoon destination.
Why we love it: Great pizza, mountain views nearby, and an easy excuse to explore one of our favorite small towns.
